It is important to acknowledge that, while NLUG has open and no-cost membership, our organization is not well-served by getting Joe Anybody off the street into our meetings. We should strive to bring people who are either already Linux users or who are already enthusiastic about computer technology. Yes, the purpose of NLUG is promoting and encouraging Linux use throughout Nashville, but almost all computer users will have no interest in pursuing this activity. Our club will be more focused and more successful with a smaller number of enthusiastic computer technologists, than it will with a large number of apathetic computer users, who only attend for the content. Although not a requirement, a typical new NLUG member will have a background in computer science or computer research, will have at least dabbled with scripting and programming, and will be part of the Nashville technology community.

• Computer Science Departments in local colleges and universities.
  

• Computer education room in local high schools.
  

• Local businesses that sell Linux computers or that sell Linux services.
  

• Programming classes in community colleges and in continuing education classrooms.
