Places to Put-up Posters
Sharing some experiences that I have had putting up 500 of these Ubuntu Highway posters around Nashville.
-
Act locally. Put posters in areas where you regularly go normally. Having a consistent message is best, so being able to routinely checking on your posting is better than putting up once.
-
Bring your own tape and tacks. Each can be purchased for $1 each at the dollar store.
-
Always ask for permission. You will be using someone else's property. Once you establish permission, you can simply maintain the poster by replacing ones that are taken down.
-
Try to uncover the public bulletin boards. You may have always overlooked them. Your shopping market, school, church, or place of business probably has one.
-
Hotels - Many have a shared computer room. Post one poster next to the computer screen, and people can learn about Ubuntu on the Internet.
-
DVD Rental Stores - Place on the counter where the videos are picked up on the way out.
-
Animal Hospitals - Funny as it sounds, but people spend a long time waiting for their pet to be retrieved and will read a poster.
-
Restaurants - Many smaller stores will allow posters in their windows. Chain stores may have policies against it, but they probably have a nice break room for employees where a poster could be displayed.
-
The Mega-Corp Retail Store - Some Mega-Corp stores care not at all about the community have policies against posting anything. Place one in the Used Vehicles publication racks by the doors. Sometimes, there's no point in asking since no one has authorization for anything.
-
Laundromats - Best place ever! Many people idly waiting for the dryers to finish. Post one or two on the walls. Many have a public bulletin board.
You might think - why post something where people aren't using computers? The reason is that people who know computers already know about Linux. This poster gets regular people thinking about Windows alternatives. I have a lot of fun working on this project. I enjoyed meeting people in the community and helping people understand Ubuntu. What I found is when you explain Ubuntu, most people will be excited to participate by letting you post your poster.
